Dear Friends of Egyptian Children with Cancer,
On behalf of Friends of Egyptian Children with Cancer “FECC” we deeply thank you for your continuous support and generous donations throughout the year.
Last week we were able to transfer $175,000 to our sister organization in Egypt. Seventy percent (70%) of the funds will be used to buy and distribute medications to the hospitals the FECC sponsors in Upper and Lower Egypt. Thirty percent (30%) of the funds will be used to allow the “Oasis” to host the sick children and their families during their treatments and checkups at no cost.
The FECC expenses for the year were $4,545.00. This included cost of envelopes, printing, postal stamps, yearly subscription to Bonterra software program and the electronic fund transfer to Egypt.
Currently, we have less than $3000 in the bank, however, with your help it will grow again.
May God reward you for helping the sick poor children and their families in Egypt.

Dear Friends, of Friends of Egyptian Children with Cancer,
We hope that you and your family are all well. On behalf of Friends of Egyptian Children with Cancer, we thank you for being a member of the FECC family and for your continuous support.
In Egypt, the prices of medications, food, clothes, and other basic needs are unfortunately rapidly rising by the day. Many families of sick children cannot afford the medications they need. Just imagine how parents would feel when their child gets sick and they cannot provide the medications for their child.
We are in the giving season. Christmas and the end of the year are one and two eeks away. It is time to count the numerous blessings we all received over the years, and share our blessings with the poor sick children of Egypt.
Please, include Friends of Egyptian Children with Cancer in your Christmas and end of the year donations. Your donations will help more children be treated properly, recover, and enjoy a healthy, productive life.

Dear Friends of Egyptian Children with Cancer,
We hope that you and your family are doing well. We are very grateful for your continuous support to” Friends of Egyptian Children with Cancer.” With your donations more poor and sick children in Egypt are properly treated, fully recover and have a shot at a healthy and productive life ahead of them.
Currently, the cost of medications in Egypt is extremely high. Many families cannot afford the needed medications to treat their children. It is an incumbent on us to help cover part of the cost of the medications and the free residential stay of the children and their families at the Oasis during their treatment and follow ups.
Please include the FECC in your donations during the International Giving Season. ” Giving Tuesday” is a global day of giving. It is held annually on Tuesday following Thanksgiving. On that day we should remember all the blessing that we have and share them with the poor and sick children in Egypt.
Your donations to FECC, give the children an opportunity to get treated and recover. Thank you in advance for your generous donations to FECC.

Dear Friends of FECC,
Thank you for your continuous support to “Friends of Egyptian Children with Cancer (FECC).”
With your donations, more poor children afflicted with cancer receive their needed medications. For the last twenty years, Fayza Khalick, a board member of our sister organization in Egypt ” Friends of Children with Cancer” has been in charge of receiving annually the pediatric oncology departments’ requests for medications. She surveys the market, buys the needed medications and distributes them to the hospitals which the FECC supports. The amount of medications distributed confirms with the number of children each hospital treated the previous year. With your donations, more children get treated, recover and enjoy a long healthy life ahead of them.
Also, after recovery or between treatment sessions, the children and their families spend time at the “Oasis” to rest, enjoy the healthy environment, learn principles of hygiene, healthy food, exercise, safety, and the effects of medications.
Please donate to treat more children with cancer in Egypt:

Dear Friends of Egyptian Children with Cancer,
On behalf of Egyptian Children with Cancer (FECC), we would like to share with you its 2023 financial report.
We are thankful to all of you for your continuous support and generosity. Because of you, Friends of Egyptian Children with Cancer (FECC) was able this year to raise $195,000. This is the highest amount of money the FECC raised since its inception! The Board wired the total amount to our sister organization in Egypt, arid allocated 65% of the funds to buy the requested medications. Our sister organization distributes the medications to the hospitals according to the number of children treated the preceding year.
Thirty-five percent (35%) of the funds were assigned to the” Oasis” which is located in Wadi El Natron. It is the first residential, supportive, educational and recreational facility in Egypt dedicated to the children and their families to stay without cost during the children’s treatment and rehabilitation.
My husband, Kamal Khalil, MD, and I had an opportunity a few weeks ago to visit Asyut University Hospital, one of the hospitals the FECC supports, and to meet the physicians who treat the sick children. We were impressed by their highly advanced skills and state of the art medical equipment they use.
Currently, the children and their families do not have to travel to Cairo and are treated
locally. The Physicians follow similar protocols that are used nationally and internationally to treat pediatric cancer.
The physicians told us they have sufficient manpower; however, they lack sufficient funds to treat all the children who come to their hospital.
It is our obligation to raise more funds to provide medications to all the poor children and give them a chance to be treated, recover and have a long, healthy, and productive life.

Dear Friends of FECC,
Twenty-six (26) years ago, an American lady, Susan Work, established the non-profit organization, Friends of Egyptian Children with Cancer (FECC) in Houston, Texas. The idea arose a few years before when Susan’s husband, David, had been transferred to Egypt in 1990 to run the third largest American company in Egypt. Susan met a pediatric oncologist, Dr. Salah Abdel Hadi, who had recently returned from a Fulbright Scholarship in the US, where he spent three months in three different cancer hospitals. He came back to Cairo determined to establish in Egypt what the US hospitals had. Susan organized volunteers to visit the children’s ward to spend a few hours a week with the poor children. In 1991, Dr. Abdel Hadi and Susan began setting up a non-profit organization.
When David and Susan returned to Houston, Susan decided that the only way she could continue to help the Egyptian children was to organize the Egyptian community in Houston to support her efforts. With the help of a number of dedicated volunteers — Ahmed and Kadria Abou-Sayed, Mamdouh and Helju Hamad, Dr. Norman Jaffe, Drs. Samia and Kamal Khalil, Dr. Ezzat Abouleish, Dr. Mohamed Khalil Ali, Dr.& Mrs. Robert Bast, Ms. Naila Seif, Drs. Nageeb and Rose Abdallah, and Moustafa Abou-Ghanem — we have succeeded in continuing the activities of FECC.
The mission of the FECC is to:
- Provide comprehensive care to Egyptian children with cancer in Egypt
- Promote awareness of pediatric cancer diagnosis and therapy
- Purchase cancer medications, medical supplies, and medical equipment
- Provide scholarships for Egyptian junior physicians and nurses to specialize in pediatric oncology care.
All FECC Board Members are volunteers. FECC has a minimal overhead. The main function of the FECC is to raise funds, which are transferred to our sister organization in Egypt annually. This year 70% of funds were spent on buying the necessary medications for children who were treated at no cost at the following universities and institutes hospitals: Alexandria, Borg El Arab, Mansoura, Zagazig, Ain Shams and Assuit Universities and Nasser Institute. Thirty percent of FECC funds were designated to the “Oasis”, the first residential, supportive, educational and recreational facility to serve the children and their families in Egypt. Also, $15,000 were allocated for pediatric oncology nurses’ scholarships.
Due to the current status of the economy, there is a decrease in the raised funds. The FECC last fund-raising gala was in 2020. Currently, the FECC is planning a fund-raising gala on February 4th 2023.
Please, help the FECC and donate to cover the rising cost of medications to be able to treat and cure the poor children. Donations may be sent by one of the following ways:

Dear Friends of FECC,
On behalf of Friends of Egyptian Children with Cancer (FECC), I sincerely thank you for your generous support and commitment. This year, despite the Covid-19 epidemic and its economic impact on many. the vast majority of our donors did their best to help the poor and sick children in Egypt. We deeply appreciate your generosity to provide medications to those in desperate need. The cost of chemotherapy medications in Egypt is rising by the day.
This year. the FECC raised $140,000.00. Our overhead is minimal, thanks to the FECC all-volunteer Board members. Last month, $135,000.00 were wired to our sister organization’s bank account in Cairo. Seventy percent of the funds were earmarked for medications requested by Abou- El- Reach, El Zagazig, Ain Shams, Assiut Alexandria, and Mansoura University hospitals and the Nasser Institute. The amount of donation to each hospital is correlated with the number of children each hospital treated for – free that year. The remaining 30% of the funds transferred to Egypt were assigned to “the Oasis”. In addition, the FECC has reserved $25,000.00 for the nursing scholarships at Cairo University Nursing School.
Thank you in advance for your generous donations:

I hope that you and your family are doing well.
Please accept our deepest appreciation for those who generously gave to Friends of Egyptian Children with Cancer( FECC).
Currently, in Egypt not all the cancer medications are available. The hospitals which FECC support are having difficulty securing medications for the children.
During the forty days lent and Ramadan month, let us remember the poor children and their families. It is an obligation on all of us who have been so fortunate to contribute to the unfortunate sick children. Let us hold our hands together to provide the necessary medications for them. Let us give them an opportunity to be treated, recover and have a healthy and active long life ahead of them.

Dear Friends of FECC,
Thanksgiving is a time to appreciate those who make a difference in other people’s lives. We are so grateful to you for your continuous support and generosity. We should remember our numerous blessings, we thank God for being alive, healthy, and surrounded by relatives and friends who provide us with love and care.
Therefore, we should remember other people who are not as fortunate, particularly children. In Egypt there are many poor children who are afflicted with cancer. Just imagine how sad and devastated their poor parents would be facing the reality that they cannot buy the needed expensive medications to treat their child from a life-threatening disease. With your donations the child will be diagnosed early, receive appropriate treatment, recover and have a shot at a normal healthy life for years to come.
Please be part of the FECC’s efforts to cover the cost of the expensive medications which the children in Egypt badly need. The FECC assists annually seven pediatric oncology hospitals associated with universities and scattered all over Egypt to buy the necessary medications to treat those children at no cost. To donate

Dear Friends of FECC,
On behalf of Friends of Egyptian Children with Cancer, I express my deepest appreciation for your continuous support and generosity.
The COVID-19 has affected much of the world and Egypt has its high share. Many families and their children are having difficult and sad times for being sick and losing relatives and friends. The children with cancer and their families are particularly suffering. Their parents cannot afford the high cost of their medications and medical care. The inflation in Egypt is rising by the day.
Please, help us collect the cost of medications and treatment for these poor children. Unfortunately, at the present time, due to the wide spread of the COVID-19 virus and its variants in Texas, our chances of having our annual gala; the main fundraising event are not high.
However, the need for funds to cover medications and medical care remains overwhelming. Please, donate now for this important lifesaving intervention.
The following pictures are for children with cancer and their mothers in the Oasis. They received the proper medications and medical care free at one of the hospitals we support and they recovered. They are enjoying a day at the Oasis. It is quite rewarding to see them healthy, happy, exercising and having fun.
Please donate now to bring a smile to the children with cancer and their families in Egypt.
Best Regards,

Dear Friends of FECC,
Many thanks for your continuing support and previous generous donations to Friends of Egyptian Children with Cancer. Your generous donations indicate how much you are committed to help the poor children and their families.
With the recent surge of the Covid-19 Delta variant, the sick children fight two battles; their cancer and also the Covid-19 Delta variant. Your donation can offer the children an opportunity to be diagnosed early, receive proper medical care, completely recover and have a long healthy life ahead of them.
The Board members of FECC are all volunteers and do their best to minimize the FECC’s overhead. Our overhead is only 2.5% which is amazingly low compared to many other nonprofits. The FECC Board members strive to send every penny donated to FECC to our sister organization in Egypt. The funds are spent on buying the needed medications and health care for the children.

Dear Friends,
Mary Samia is my lovely granddaughter. She is 12 years old and decided on her own to donate all her birthday monetary gift this year to FECC to help the sick children in Egypt. I am so proud of her. Please, share her story with your children and grandchildren. Let us all give an opportunity for our children and grandchildren to hold hands and donate to FECC to help the children.
Mary Samia Khalil’s letter
Hello Everyone,
Today I will be speaking about my grandmother and the great impact of her inspiring me to become a better person. To start off, you might know my grandmother Samia or, as I call her, Teta. She is the President of the non-profit organization, The Friends of Egyptian Children with Cancer. You can tell a lot about a person by what their passions are in the world. Tata’s passion is to help the world become a better place, particularly her home, Egypt by devoting time and money into it. She is so selfless go through many struggles to become a great anesthesiologist. Not to mention her intelligence, kindness, and hospitality for people. We all deserve to be loved, and there is enough for everyone. I’m sure I speak for the kids in Egypt fighting the battle of cancer. That life is too short to just throw away, make it better for everyone around you. Egypt is so full of happiness, cheer, and traditions, but they have been through so much including having a sustainable economy. Making it hard for children to have health care, on top of that, fighting one of the world’s most deadliest diseases, cancer. This organization helps so many kids live a little longer by improving their medicines, machines, and equipment. How they raise this money is by doing one of my favorite things that I look forward to all year. They raise this money by organizing the Gala, or just by attending it, including my specialty, raffle tickets. Every year we enjoy the dancers, the ceremony, the twinkling lights, and the warm feeling in the air. The reason being is that when I see all the people around me, it makes my heart so much happier! Just like the kids with cancer in Egypt, sometimes we kids feel weak, vulnerable, and insignificant. In the world today, and by society’s standards, it is hard to make a difference as a kid. How can you make an impact? And possibly help a kid in Egypt have a meaningful life full of love? Well, by stepping up, and realizing the people around you and the situation. My Teta proved to me that you can truly do anything, and she would know being a full time doctor with four boys. I did something that is pretty exhilarating by donating $500 to this organization filled with hospitality and life. I gave a donation and every day from then on I wake up every morning feeling grateful that I contributed to something bigger than myself. Now I know it was tempting and a little difficult not to get something such as a bike or soccer ball. But I changed a kid’s life in Egypt and advanced the technology. Egypt still has so many challenges to overcome, although with kids’ help it can improve drastically. All it takes is courage and perseverance to give something to the world. There is no better feeling than being able to make a young one proud, especially when giving back to the Friends of Egyptian Children with Cancer Organization! Shukran.
Mary Samia Khalil
In previous years, in early February, the board of Friends of Egyptian Children with Cancer is usually very busy preparing and organizing for the annual Gala. Together, we work hard, recognizing that the annual gala is the main fundraising event to help the Egyptian Children with cancer. This year however, the hotel in which we conducted the gala for years cancelled its events and the manager who helped us for years switched her career to become a real estate agent. We will dearly miss her. Unfortunately, this year the FECC will not be able to have its annual Gala in person. Nonetheless, we thank God that we are alive and healthy and hope that all of you are safe and healthy. Due to the pandemic, In Egypt, the chances for the poor Children with Cancer to get treated are getting smaller and smaller. The cost of their medications and PPEs is rising by the day, as there are shortages in both.
On behalf of FECC, I thank you from the bottom of my heart for your continuous support and donations. FECC is indebted to you and other generous donors for helping the children of Egypt. However, many of us are blessed and can give more to help those children. They and their families are facing extreme hardships and need our support more than ever.
The oncology clinics which are affiliated with the universities and treat the children without cost, depend on our annual contributions to them to continue their proper treatment of the children and give them a chance at a cure.
The following video is from Aya who has been treated at the NCI and and was visiting the oasis. It is in Arabic and its English translation is below it.

My name is Aya, I am a patient of the National Cancer Institute, which sent me an invitation to visit the Health and Hope Oasis, which is a very nice place, it calms your nerves, it is quiet. They teach the children the basics of cleanliness, such as washing your hands after eating, and wearing a mask when we are in a group. They offer game sessions. Yesterday, it was great, it is not only for the children but also for their families. I want to thank the NCI and the people who are in the oasis as we had a great time.
